Hats for our House.
Today, every student was blessed with a handmade crochet hat. Mr. Ed Ackley is 88 years old and he is the great grandfather of Katie Brock, our K-3 teacher.
For Mr. Ed, crochet has always been a great way to pass time and keep his mind sharp but these hats have a deeper meaning. One of his grandchildren had a rare condition, Kawasaki Disease, that took his life at a very young age. Max was like any other 7 year old child. Full of life and energy until his terrible disease took that life away. Max is being remembered in Lee county schools as one of their heroes. Students showing kindness and love have the opportunity to earn the "Max Award."
Mr. Ed started making these hats in honor of Max. Now, he sends hats to hospitals, schools, children's homes, you name it.
Today, your children didn't just receive a hat that was crocheted by some random person. They were given a beautiful gift to remember how to love like Jesus. Mr. Ed is leaving a legacy, not just in his family but also in our BCS family! May we all find ways to leave our mark on this world like Max and Mr. Ed!
